Government Emergency Alert, Sunday 23^rd April 2023 at 3pm

Hello everyone,

You may or may not have heard about this in the news, but this week on Sunday from 3pm the government are testing out an alert that will go out to all UK mobile phones/tablets.

There is nothing you will need to do, and it isn’t something to worry about. The alert is a test. However, please be aware that as part of the alert your device may:

• Have a message appear on the home screen
• Make a loud siren-like sound, even if it’s set on silent
• Vibrate
• Read out the alert

The sound and vibration will last for about 10 seconds. On your phone, you should be able to swipe away the alert message or click "OK" on your home screen to continue using your phone as normal.

The plan is for these alerts to be used in the future by emergency services or government departments to help warn people of severe weather warnings and how to stay safe.
